Benefits for Mothers

This prenatal yoga class is very gentle and relaxing. It is suitable for any pregnant woman, weather you are new to yoga or have been practicing for years. This class was developed by midwives at the Integral Yoga Institute in Buckingham, Virginia. Combining the ancient art of yoga with their knowledge of pregnancy and birth, they developed a beautiful way for woman to prepare themselves for childbirth.

You will find that the yoga poses will ease the common discomforts of pregnancy, especially lower back pain and swelling. You will come to a place through your yoga practice of total wellbeing, while strengthening your body, toning your muscles and creating flexibility in your joints and ligaments. It has been observed, that woman who practice the squatting pose in prenatal yoga, stretch and tone their pelvic floor and thus experience fewer tears.

The class is designed to teach you beneficial movements and positioning that will help you through labor. Many of the yoga poses practiced in the class are actually great positions for laboring women. We encourage you to move and listen to your body during labor. Hip rocking, squatting, belly dancing are all great ways to move and enhance birth.
At the end of the DVD, Dr. Kelley provides nutritional tips she personally recommends for a healthy pregnancy.
